WEST CHESTER TWP. —

Kemba Credit Union is thinking bigger when it comes to growing its presence in Butler County.

The company filed permits with West Chester Twp. this month for a new 147,000-square-foot corporate headquarters on nearly seven acres of undeveloped land at 5600 Chappell Crossing Blvd. in West Chester Twp., behind its current headquarters at 8763 Union Centre Blvd.

Kemba plans to invest more than $28 million into the facility, which is larger than the 90,000-square-foot building whose plans company officials disclosed last year.

The eight-story building, down from the initially announced height of 10 stories, still will be one of the larger office complexes in the growing West Chester community.

It will have a capacity to house more than 370 employees and more than 20 departments.

Of the company’s more than 200 employees, more than 100 work at its West Chester headquarters, which opened in 2007. After continued growth and acquisitions, Kemba Credit Union experienced “a significant increase” in members and the growth of its current headquarters to its capacity.

“The new building will allow the credit union to expand, create new jobs and position Kemba Credit Union to successfully serve its members in the future,” said Dan Sutton, the company’s president and CEO.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for May.

Kemba’s management team and board spent more than a year designing the new facility. Kemba will continue to operate its branch at the current headquarters and will lease out the remainder of the building to prospective tenants.

Schumacher Dugan is the builder and construction manager for the project, Hub+Weber Architects is designing the building, and 16 Points Solutions is Kemba’s Owner’s Representative and interior designer.

The project will create 40 new full-time jobs with an average salary of $40,000 for a total $1.6 million in additional payroll.

Butler County last year approved a seven-year, 75 percent property tax abatement through the enterprise zone program.

Founded in 1934 to serve the needs of employees of the Kroger Company, the credit union manages assets in excess of $725 million throughout Southwest Ohio and serves more than 106,000 members and 840 companies through its network of 11 branches.

Of the company’s 208 employees, 108 work at its West Chester headquarters, which opened in 2007. After continued growth and acquisitions, Kemba Credit Union experienced “a significant increase” in members and the growth of its current headquarters to its capacity.

David Fehr, Butler County’s development director, previously told this news outlet the project is an important one for Butler County because it means being able to retain 108 high-wage jobs and an existing payroll of approximately $6.8 million dollars.
