GENERAL MOTORS SELECTS WEST CHESTER AS LOCATION OF NEW FACILITY
General Motors has received approval for an Enterprise Zone Agreement from the Union Township Trustees to construct a new state-of-the-art parts distribution facility in West Chester, Ohio. This world class facility will incorporate advanced design features to maximize product flow, increase productivity and support other lean and common processes. General Motors selected West Chester over competing sites in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
The new 352,000 square foot building will be constructed in the Union Centre Commerce Park, and will be located south of Union Centre Boulevard, between Beckett Road and State Route 747. Total investment at the new facility is estimated to be nearly $40 million dollars and will have an employment level of approximately 182 employees.
At the Union Township Trustees meeting on September 28, 1999, Ray Culbert, Manager of Operations Planning for General Motors Service Parks Operations, spoke highly of West Chester and the Union Centre Boulevard as the location of the new facility. When asked to describe the attributes that made the West Chester site General Motors preferred location, he stated, "That (Union Center Boulevard) is a terrific Interchange. I do searches all over the country, and we die for interchanges like that. We also want to locate our facilities in an area that is very high quality."
General Motors' announcement continues the impressive development activity that has occurred in West Chester since the Union Centre Boulevard/I-75 Interchange opened 2 years ago in December, 1997. Companies opening new operations in West Chester include General Electric, Procter & Gamble (2), Cintas, Xerox, Cinmar/Cornerstone Consolidated Services Group, and Time-Warner.
