ROAD PROJECTS

Allen Rd. Bridge (east of Windisch Road)
Construction was completed in September, 2005 on a major bridge replacement on Allen Road just east of Windisch Road. The original bridge was a narrow steel pony truss built in 1956 and was posted with load restrictions in December 2003. It has been replaced by a much wider three-span concrete box beam bridge designed to accommodate future upgrades to Allen Road and the nearby Windisch Road intersection.

Design and engineering of a new structure was accelerated due to the bridge’s critical impact on the local business community. Allen Road is considered a critical link for businesses and truck traffic.

Cincinnati Dayton Road Widening
The Butler County Engineer intends to improve Cincinnati Dayton Rd. from Crescentville Rd. to West Chester Rd by widening the road to three lanes and improving several curves within the project limits. The project is scheduled to begin spring, 2006.

This upgrade of the northwest quadrant of Cincinnati Dayton Road and the addition of new streets in conjunction with a new shopping complex was completed in spring, 2005 by the Butler County Engineers Office.

Connector Road between Devitt Drive and Interstate Drive
Plans are underway for a connector road between Devitt Drive and Interstate Drive. Funds are being provided through the Federal Highway Safety Funds and appraisals are currently being performed for acquisition of the ROW. Provided the appraised values fall within the established budget, preliminary work would begin Fall, 2008 with completion expected in Spring, 2009.

Hamilton Mason Rd.
Hamilton Mason Rd. will be widened to five lanes from Cox Rd. east to Butler Warren Road in the spring of 2006. This is phase 1 of the Ohio 129/I-75 interchange. This is a Butler County Engineers project.

Interstate 75 Widening
Interstate I-75 has been widened from Hamilton County north to Tylersville Road in West Chester from 6 to 8 lanes. The interchange at I-275, the Cincinnati regional beltway, has been improved also. The project was managed by the Ohio Department of Transportation and began in March, 2003 and was completed in 2004.
A $100,000,000 project is slated to begin in 2008 to widen I-75 to four lanes in each direction from the Cincinnati Dayton Road interchange in West Chester Twp. north to Ohio 122 east of Middletown. Noise walls, resurfacing and bridge work will be performed where needed.

Liberty Interchange
The TID continues to work on the engineering design for the Hamilton-Mason Road improvements with some title and right-of-way work being completed. The environmental document for the interchange continues to move along in the process. The TID will provide more detailed information as it becomes available.

Muhlhauser Rd. at Allen Rd.
The intersection is scheduled for improvement by adding turn lanes and upgraded signals at an estimated cost of $500,000 through the Ohio Department of Development. Work is scheduled for spring 2006.

Muhlhauser Rd. at Union Centre Boulevard
An intersection improvement is scheduled during the fall of 2007 which will include additional turn lanes for easier access to I-75.

Port Union Road
Port Union Road has been widened to three lanes between Fairfield and Ohio 747 in West Chester and the bridge was replaced. A hill was cut down to improve visibility and the road alignment straightened to improve safety.

Ohio 747 Widening
Construction has been completed widening Ohio 747 in West Chester to five lanes from south of Smith Road north to Tylersville Road with significant upgrades to the Smith Road intersection. Future improvements will widen Ohio 747 between Tylersville Road and the Butler Regional Highway. When the full upgrade project is completed, Ohio 747 is planned to be five lanes from I-275 in Hamilton County north to State Route 4 in Butler County.

Ohio 747/Railroad Crossing
ODOT will improve Ohio 747 in Springdale (at West Chester’s southern line) by constructing a railroad underpass for smoother traffic flow and upgrading the safety level at the tracks. Construction began in the spring of 2004. The section of the road to be improved is north of I-275 and south of Crescentville Road, which is the line where motorists pass between Springdale and West Chester. When completed, traffic on Ohio 747 will flow below the railroad tracks and the exit ramp from I-275 to north Ohio 747 will be permanently widened. Completion date is set to be just prior to Thanksgiving.

Union Centre Boulevard
Union Centre Boulevard is now open from I-75 in West Chester west to Symmes Road in Fairfield with five lanes. Major intersections (traveling east to west) with traffic signals are: Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Civic Center Boulevard, Interstate 75, Muhlhauser Road, Allen Road, West Chester Road, Beckett Road, State Route 747, and Seward Road at Symmes.

In 2001 Union Centre was extended from Ohio 747 in West Chester to Symmes Road in Fairfield by Butler County, Fairfield and West Chester. This new $8 million dollar road unlocked more than 700 acres of land for industrial developments in both West Chester and Fairfield. Construction of the extension began April 2001 and the road opened December 10, 2001.

US 42
This project proposes to widen US 42 to three lanes to provide a through lane in each direction and a middle two-way left-turn lane from US 42 from Fields Ertel Rd. north to Butler Warren Road. This widening is for areas where there is currently no turn lane. The project also proposes left turn lanes on both approaches of Dimmick Road which is designed to provide safer roadway conditions for the traveling public. Project is scheduled for construction and completion in 2008.

Mack Road/Muhlhauser at State Route 4
In the spring of 2003, a major improvement project in Fairfield began to upgrade two major commercial and industrial roadways. A railroad overpass has been constructed for traffic on Muhlhauser Road east of State Route 4, and Mack Road at State Route 4 has been realigned. Muhlhauser Road has been widened from State Route 4 in Fairfield east to Ohio 747 in West Chester. State Route 4 has been improved from Seward Road to south of the Mack/Muhlhauser intersection. This project was completed in 2004.
