Miami University unveiled plans today for a learning center in West Chester offering graduate and undergraduate programs together with workforce development and a specialized Business & Industry Center. The Voice of America Learning Center will be developed on a 20-acre site on Cox Road off Tylersville Road at I-75, known as West Chester’s Uptown district.
The first phase of the Voice of America Learning Center will be a 23,000 sq.ft. facility with capacity for more than 80 courses weekly. Miami’s project joins two other regional developments underway in the district, U.C Physicians’ 75-acre University Pointe medical campus where the Health Alliance is currently building a hospital, and the 75-acre retail Voice of America Centre.
The Business & Industry Center will provide contract training and specialized coursework to meet the needs of regional employers. Specialists will work with employers to assess training opportunities and needs and identify state funds to support training.
Miami’s nationally ranked Farmer School of Business will offer a Professional MBA program that will be designed in consultation with area businesses to assure it is aligned with business and employee needs. Miami also will offer graduate coursework leading to a Master’s in Education. Undergraduate courses will be offered during days, evenings and weekends and will combine traditional class formats with blended in-class/online format.
“Education is very important to our success as a community and we have been fortunate to have many great partners,” said West Chester Township Trustee George Lang. “Miami’s new learning center will be an important link in providing educational services that will allow our corporate neighbors to compete globally and draw upon resources found close to home.”
“Miami University will be an excellent addition to West Chester, encouraging continued development of a multi-cultural community and a diverse economy,” said Trustee Lee Wong. “By embracing higher education in our community we increase opportunities to attract a diverse group of professionals and keep young people in our community as they enter their chosen profession.”
West Chester is also home to Indiana Wesleyan University and University of Phoenix, both located at Union Centre in the community’s Downtown district.
“It is wonderful to see Miami University’s plans advance with the Voice of America Learning Center,” said Trustee Catherine Stoker. “The amenities that West Chester offers are well beyond any distinct interchange and Miami’s Learning Center will be a tremendous community anchor to enrich the lives of all residents and visitors, wanting to further their education.”
